The following five case studies illustrate the many different uses of galvanizing and its important characteristics from durability to its practicality. Two of the case studies detail recently completed life cycle analysis.
The Ehzer Bridge was constructed in 1945 in support of the liberation of the Netherlands. It carries a small local road, over the Twente canal, from Almen to Laren which is still being used by local traffic.
Carry out an inspection of the bridge to measure the performance of the galvanized coating.
The galvanized coating was characterised by its grey appearance with only light rust staining. No significant reduction of the coating thicknesses was measured since a previous inspection.
The coating had already provided over 60 years of protection. The Ehzer bridge at Almen could make it to 100 years without significant maintenance.
