Cork City Council Offices

Situation

Existing buildings for Cork City Council were not large enough for the smooth running of Council activities.

Objective

Provide new office space that would fit into the existing fabric of the site.

Results

Dramatic crystalline volume of glass and steel designed for maximum flexibility.  Free heating and cooling are provided using a geothermal heating system.  Floor to ceiling glazing maximises daylight penetration.  A double façade of fritted glass within a galvanized lattice frame helps create a comfortable microclimate within the building.

Conclusion

The form of the building is the product of a holistic environmental strategy which integrates the latest technology to create a dynamic building.
